I've written this article for those of you who don't yet know how to replace a boring old thermostat with a beautiful, elegant smart thermostat.
Note: If your packaged unit uses a brushless/EMC motor, this may not work.
I was looking for the latest thermostat from the Carrier brand that would look premium and match the interior design of our function hall, preferably a smart thermostat.

When I enquired with the carrier distributors, they told me there is no alternative to the shabby-looking thermostats we use. That was very disappointing.
But I managed to replace the less attractive Carrier thermostat with a smart thermostat from "Avatto".

Carrier uses a separate control board in the indoor machine to interface their thermostat.

Remove the control wires from the indoor machine board and connect the 'fan speed control' and 'compressor' wires directly to the Wi-Fi thermostat, as shown in the image below.

Note: The thermostat must be powered (L + N) from the same point as the machine, which will switch off the thermostat too when the machine's power supply is cut off.
